Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment is necessary when the dental pulp, soft tissue inside the root canal, becomes inflamed or infected. This treatment is usually performed in one or two appointments. Dr. Kholodenko, Dr. Seltzer, or Dr. Reece will conduct a comprehensive tooth evaluation. A local anesthetic will be administered. A small opening will be made in the crown of the tooth and the dental pulp will be cleaned from the pulp chamber. The cleared out space will be filled with a rubber-like material, and a temporary filling will be applied to the opening in the crown.

After the treatment, you should return to your general dentist to complete the restoration. There are a number of options available. For example, your dentist may elect to place a permanent filling, or they may suggest you get a crown. No matter what option you and your dentist agree upon, it is essential that you complete the permanent restoration in order to avoid the failure of the endodotic treatment.
